Best No Pull Dog Harness Review

1. Freedom No Pull Harness & Leash

The Freedom No Pull Dog Harness and Leash combo has become one of the best to ever do it. Why? Well, one reason is that they have a patented design that utilizes something called “opposition reflex.”

Basically, this is the reflex that dogs have when they feel pressure holding them back. You know when you pull on the leash, and they pull back harder? That is “opposition reflex.”

Traditional harnesses actually encourage this because the dog can pull as hard as they want without any repercussions.

The Freedom No Pull harness, on the other hand, does not allow this because your dog cannot pull in a straight line without twisting or straining because you can “steer” them.

Yup, that’s right! You can actually steer which way your dog is walking by pulling right or left on the leash!

I am the owner of two of these amazing harnesses and couldn’t be happier with my purchase. They are holding up well. We’ve had them for around near 5 years now.

Our full-grown German Shepherd is 100lb and has a massive chest (he’s already had bloat). He is a horrible puller! Just like any young dog. We also have Tucker and had a buddy of his with us for a short period.

His buddy Cody was a Staffordshire Terrier. You can only imagine how well he pulled. I used the harnesses on all the dogs and went from never wanting to walk them alone and being able to walk them by myself with ZERO issues. Our walks got longer and longer too.

The negative reviews are a surprise for me to see here for this product. However, we all need to understand that no harness is a miracle. You will still need to work with your dog or dogs. To get them to walk correctly. – don’t just rely on a harness to do everything for you!

This was the only harness that I was genuinely able to find that works for my dog. It is quite durable and prevented him from pulling altogether.

I was using the Rabbitgoo harness before I decided to buy this one. The Rabbitgoo had a nice set up with clasps both front and back and a handle, but it collected way too much dog hair.

Plus, I always had to readjust it. I never had any of those issues with the Easy Walk Harness, and it was a lot more comfortable for him and easier for me to keep clean.

My Shiba Inu is very picky, I struggled with other harnesses in the past, and I think it is safe to say that we agree with this one. I have now purchased three!

I really like this harness because it doesn’t take any effort getting it on and off my dog and I can adjust it to fit snuggly.

I’ve noticed people always comment on the handle on the back, which I find very useful because I have a little escape artist that tries to run off.

The option to clip the leash really helped me teach my dog not to pull! I also like that there is more than just the straps to support my dog. Other harnesses dig into his shoulders and stomach…it truly makes me feel like he’s safe wearing this. Oh, and the seatbelt strap for the car is very helpful.

I’ll probably buy a 4th soon because I think I need all the colors!

I have two boxers and was struggling to leash train them. The male can about dislocate my shoulder, dragging me along and darting after animals as he sees them. This harness worked miracles for him. He was walking peacefully by my side by the end of the first walk.

The girl boxer likes to stop and look or pull the leash when animals and people are behind us. The ways she does this, I always end up pulling the leash from the front.

The harness didn’t work so well for her because she goes backward, and it didn’t tighten properly when pulling from a front

I did sort of get it to work by jingling it a little or giving it a pop. But it didn’t have the stopping power as it did for my male. I found using her regular collar and jingling it a little worked better when she pulled.

The main point is, it depends on what kind of puller you have. When it works, it REALLY WORKS!!

What do REAL customers have to say?

I’m disabled and in a wheelchair. I rescued llana’s parents from the pound 13 years ago, “From two different litters.”

Sadly, my Sophie passed away when llana was around 10 weeks old from Lyme disease. After that, I couldn’t bring myself to hand her over for adoption.

Both llana and her daddy bear mourned the loss just as much as I did. Sadly, Bear crossed the rainbow bridge a year later to be with Sophie.

I promised both of llana’s parents; I would take care of her. She soon after developed separation anxiety, and would freak out if she was left alone for to long by herself.

She loved to go outside BUT developed a pulling habit and She started pulling so hard on her collar; and she would choke herself even though my wheelchair goes 5mph.

The fear of her injuring her throat had me very-very concerned. I felt like I was breaking my promise to bear and Sophie.

So I immediately started looking for different types of collars in hopes one might help. I was placing my regular order from Chewy when I spotted this no-pull harness.

Really, “no pull”? Wouldn’t that be wonderful, I thought. I ended up speaking with a rep to make sure I was getting the perfect size for her safety.

“She was so helpful, and together we picked out what we felt was the right size for her. They even had it in pink. “You know pick for girls and blue for boys?” On top of that it was on sale.

Even better because I’m on a fixed income. The minute it came in she was so excited about wearing it. It goes on sooo easy and not only is she no longer hurting her thought she’s no longer jerking my arm!

She no longer pulls she struts along.

We live in an apartment, and would just go out back in the backfield area. But since we got the new harness, our walks got so much better; we are now ALL over the neighborhood. I just wanted to say thank you to the rep at Chewy for all your help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Harnesses Good For Dogs?

Yes, why wouldn’t they be? A dog harness doesn’t add any negative effects on your dog’s health. They do, however, add positive ones.

The whole idea behind a harness is to keep your dog safer while providing you with more control. By giving you more control, you are in return, able to keep your dog safer.

However, giving the human more control isn’t the only added safety benefit.

We all know dogs that pull nearly choke themselves out cold, right?

Fear not because the main component of a harness is to prevent that. But also allows the owner to remove the pulling behavior at the same time, only if they use a no pull dog harness.

What is a No-Pull Dog Harness and What Does It do?

It does exactly what it says it does. It stops dogs from pulling. The whole premise behind a no pull dog harness is to stop the dog from pulling.

Generally, they accomplish this by placing D rings on the sides so when your dog starts pulling full steam ahead, and you can put a little pressure on the right or left side to stop them.

Keep in mind they are not all built this way, that was just one example.

The idea behind a no-pull harness is to give maximum control to the owner, not the dog.

Why do dogs pull on the leash?

Dogs pull for many reasons; sometimes, they might not even have a purpose. Generally, a dog will pull because they see or smell something of interest.

Other times they may pull just because they are so excited to be outside. Dogs love to run and stretch those legs, so maybe that’s why they are pulling.

Unforutanly for us, we only have two legs, so we can’t move as fast as our dog. This makes us get pulled because we are too slow to keep up with their pace.

How long does it take to leash train a dog?

One week.

Just kidding that’s isn’t a question anyone can answer. It truly depends on your dog and you. Yup, you are a part of the problem just as much as your dog is.

If you really want to learn how to leash train your dog, I highly recommend that you put them in obedience training.

You will learn all the fundamentals it takes to leash train a dog and a whole slew of other things.

Or you can go with one of the no-pull dog harnesses that we reviewed and see how that works.

Some dogs don’t even need leash training, sometimes the harness itself will fix the problem.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed our no-pull dog harness review and I hope that you were able to pick out the perfect one for your pupper.

We all have different priorities and preferences, and that’s okay. What works for one person might not work for the other. I am 100% confident that there is a dog harness for everyone in this review list.
